THE PERFECT 3 DAYS IN DRESDEN

Good morning my lovelies! I hope you are all doing well. Today I've got a post for you from the city of Dresden where I got invited by the Visit Dresden, Schlösserland and Simply Saxony to celebrate the 300 year anniversary of the "Fürstenhochzeit" (the prince wedding). Friedrich August, the son of August der Starke and Maria Josepha from Austria, got married in one of the most famous places of Dresden - in Zwinger. The city was celebrating this special event and today I would like to show a little bit of what we did in Dresden to celebrate this special marriage. I also wanted to give you a little bit of idea what you can plan yourself as a visit shall you come to this beautiful city in the future - so with this post you can not only learn a little bit about the city's history, but also take it as inspiration for your travels!

Dneska mám pro Vás post z Drážďan, kam jsem na 2 noci byla pozvaná od Visit Dresden, Schlösserland a Simply Saxony, kteří mají momentálně mají v Drážďanech nejrůznější výstavy, eventy a projekty k výročí 300 letům svatby Friedricha Augusta, syna Augusta der Starke, a Marii Josephy z Rakouska. Ti se brali a svatbu slavili právě v Sasku. Dneska bych Vám tedy chtěla říct něco víc o tom, co jsme v Drážďanech a okolí poslední 3 dny dělali. Pokud se do Drážďan chystáte, můžete to brát jako inspiraci, co stojí za to vidět a kam můžete vyrazit na výlet.

DAY 1

We arrived to Dresden on Tuesday, in the afternoon, and as first we checked in into our hotel. We stayed at the luxurious Hilton Dresden. I have stayed at the hotel before (twice) before so I know that the hotel is really good when it comes to food, service and location. If you're planning a visit, I can absolutely recommend you staying here, especially during Christmas. Why? It's located directly in the heart of Dresden, just a few steps away from the famous Catholic - Lutheran church "Frauenkirche".  

The first point of our program was an actual visit of this church built back in the 18th century. I have been passing the church for the past years, yet never made the effort to actually come inside. The inside of the Frauenkirche is very beautiful - everything is covered in gold, the architecture is beyond breathtaking and my secret tip is to visit the top part of the church where you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the whole city. If you want to visit the rooftop balcony, make sure to take in consideration that the last visit possible is at 6pm. After visiting the church, we decided to sit down at Neumarkt in a restaurant and enjoy a dinner with the view of the church.

Do Drážďan jsme přijely v úterý a jako první jsme se ubyovaly v luxusním 5-i hvězdičkovém hotelu Hilton, který se nachází v samotném historickém srdci města. V Hiltonu jsem již v Drážďanech byla dvakrát a hotel může jen vynachválit. 

Hotel se nachází jen pár metrů od známého kostela, a symbolu Drážďan, Frauenkirche. Tenhle kostel z 18. století stojí za to vidět i zevnitř. Architektura je v něm opravdu krásná a mohu doporučit se podívat i do kostelní kopule - tam jsem já teď byla poprvé a výhled z ní je naprosto dechberoucí! Otevřená je denně do 18 hodin. Na večeři jsme si pak šly sednou do italské restaurace, která se nachází přímo u Frauenkirche. Kromě skvělého jídla nabízí i nádherný výhled na kostel a celé náměstí!

DAY 2

We started our second day in Dresden by waking up early and having a breakfast at our hotel. Afterwards, we decided to visit the castle Hubertusburg, which is located in between Dresden and Leipzig. This baroque castle was built back in 1721 at the behest of Augustus The Strong. From Dresden. it took us about 40 minutes to go there - but the ride was definitely worth it. Currently, there's an exhibition about the already mentioned wedding. where you get to know more about this special event. Additionally, you'll also get to know a little more about the castle's history and that it in the past it was also used as hospital or a mental institution. I have to say that it was really impressive - the exhibition will be opened until 6th of October, so make sure to plan your visit before this date!

Náš druhý den začal budíčkem v 6 hodin, pořádnou snídaní na hotelu a výletem na zámek Hubertusburg, který leží zhruba v polovině cesty do Lipska. Postavený byl v roce 1721, a to v barokním stylu. Cesta k hradu nám z Drážďan trvala cca. 40 minut (autem) a z prohlídky jsem byla opravdu unešená. Momentálně se na zámku můžete podívat na výstavu, která se vztahuje právě k svatbě již zmiňovaných panovníků. Kromě svatby se ale i obecně můžete dozvědět o historii zámku - třeba to, že v minulosti byl používán jako nemocnice nebo psychiatrická léčebna. Výstavu je možné navštívit do 6. října.

From Hubertusburg we went directly to Meissen to visit the oldest castle in Germany, Albrechtsburg. The castle is located on a hill overlooking the whole city which gives you the best view of Meissen. Albrechtsburg was built in 1471, yet actively used it was first since 1710 by Augustus The Strong who used it as a porcelain factory. Porcelain is being produced in Meissen for 153 years now and it's one of the oldest factories in the world! After the visit, I can highly recommend visiting the restaurant Domkeller, which is the oldest pub and restaurant in the whole city of Meissen! You can look forwards many traditional dishes and an amazing view over the city from their terrace.

Naším dalším bodem programu byl zámek v Míšni, Albrechtsburg. Jedná se o nejstarší zámek v celém Německu - vybudovaný byl již v roce 1471, ale aktivně byl využíván až od roku 1710, a to Augustem der Starke, který v něm začal vyrábět porcelán. Jedná se tak zároveň o nejstarší manufakturu porcelánu na světě s tradicí starší více než 153 let. Po návštěvě zámku jsme zároveň navštívily i nejstarší hospodu ve městě, a to Domkeller, který kromě tradičních jídel nabízí i krásný výhled na celé Meissen!

We came back to Dresden around 4pm and as we were a little tired, we decided to rest a little and enjoy the hotel's spa. In the evening we went for dinner to Felix im lebendigen Haus, which has an amazing view on the Zwinger, really delicious food and great cocktails!

Jelikož jsme byly na nohou už od rána, po návratu jsme se rozhodly vyzkoušet hotelové spa a trochu zrelaxovat. Na večeři jsme zašl do rooftopu Felix im lebendigen Haus, ze kterého si můžete vychutnat krásný výhled na drážďanský Zwinger!

DAY 3

Our last day in Dresden started with traditional hotel breakfast and a small walk around the city. We went to Zwinger, which is a beautiful palace built right in the heart of the city. The place is really amazing and nowadays you can enjoy the "Zwinger Xperience" which is basically a room with a 180 degree screen on which you'll get to know how the marriage celebration of Friedrich August, the son of August der Starke and Maria Josepha from Austria, looked like back in 1719. The whole experience was truly amazing - so if you want to learn something about the history of Dresden, I highly recommend you to visit this.

Náš poslední den v Drážďanech jsme začaly procházkou po městě a návštěvou již zmiňovaného paláce Zwinger, který se od hotelu nachází jen pár minut chůze. Momentálně se v něm můžete podívat na "Zwinger Xperience" - nebo-li malé, 180 stupňové kino, které Vás přenese zpátky do roku 1719, kdy probíhali svatební oslavy již zmiňvaného páru. Projekce je opravdu promyšlená a věřím, že bude i pro Vás zážitkem.

RIght after we checked out, we went to the Eastern part of Dresden, Pillnitz, where you can find the castle Pillnitz. The building was finished in the 18th century and the couple used it as their summer residence. The castle is located right on the riverside, which makes it even more beautiful. Pillnitz was inspired by China so you can recognize a lot of Chinese elements in the architecture. As a part of the castle, there is a big garden, in which you'll find many trees, flowers, fountains and statues! I am so happy I got the chance to play a little tourist in Dresden. Even though I lived in Dresden for 4 years, I learned a lot about the city's history on this trip and visited many new places!

Po check-outu v hotelu jsme se ještě rozhodly podívat na zámek Pillnitz, který se nachází ve východní části města. Budova pochází z 18. století a architektura byla inspirovaná čínskými prvky, proto zámek vypadá netradičně. Sučástí je také velká zahrada plná květin, fontán a soch. Jsem moc ráda, že jsem se tohot výletu mohla zúčastnit a zahrát si tak na "turistku ve svém městě" - přecejenom v Sasku bydlím již od roku 2008.
