#VH CITY GUIDE: BUDAPEST

Last week I got the chance to re-visit Budapest, the capital of Hungary. I've been to the city before twice in winter, so I am really happy we finally made it in the summertime as well. I also thought that this would be a nice opportunity to write another city guide since a lot of you asked me on Instagram for my tips in this city. Here you'll be able to discover where to sleep, what food places I liked and what is definitely worth visiting!

Minulý týden jsem měla tu možnost se znovu podívat na pár dní do Budapešti. Tentokrát to již byla moje třetí návštěva a vzhledem k tomu, že se mě hodně z Vás ptalo na moje tipy a rady, rozhodla jsem se sepsat dalšího průvodce, kde se můžete těšit na moje tipy ohledně restaurací, nákupů, ubytování i památek! 

ABOUT THE CITY

Budapest, the capital of Hungary, is 9th largest city in the European Union and there is about 1.8 million people living here. The official language is Hungarian and the currency being used is Hungarian Forint (1 HUF = ca. 0.0031 EUR or 1 HUF = ca. 0.0036 USD), like in the whole country. The city has two parts - Buda, which is the more quiet part of the city located below and on the hill, and Pest, which is the more touristy part of Budapest. between those parts you'll find the river Danube with many bridges connecting the both parts of the city. You can choose several ways in order to get to the city - there is an international train station, which can be reached easily from the Czech Republic, Slovakia or Germany. There is also an international airport and a bus station.  In the city you can choose from many options when it comes to transportation - there are is transportation by a bus, an underground, a tram or a boat available!

Budapešť je hlavím městem Maďarska a zároveň 9.největším městem v Evropské Unii. Ve městě žije zhruba 1.8 milionu lidí a jako v celém Maďarsku se tu mluví maďarsky a platí Maďarským forintem (1 HUF = cca. 0.0079 CZK). Město se skládá z dvou částí - klidnější části "Buda", ve které najdete mimo domovů místních obyvatel, také Budínský hrad a Rybářskou Baštu. Tato část města je oddělená řekou Dunaj, po které vede mnoho mostů do druhé části města, "Peště", ve které se nachází "turistické" centrum, mnoho restaurací, obchodů, kaváren i nočních klubů. Město je dostupné jak pozemní dopravou, tak i leteckou. Kromě mezinárodního vlakového spojení, můžete využít také dálkových autobusů nebo letecké přepravy - z Prahy například létá pravidelně ČSA nebo Wizzair. V samotném městě najdete pak několik možností městské hromadné dopravy - kromě autubusů můžete využít i podzemní dopravy a tramvají.

WHERE TO STAY

We chose the V1 apartment for your stay which was the perfect choice for us. The flat is located in the heart of the city and offers a great view of the Parliament, which is one of the most famous buildings in Budapest! I would recommend to this place to anyone who doesn't mind cooking his own breakfast and wants to have a little more space with a great view! The place is really amazing - also I think it's great if you're traveling with friends as they have 2 bedrooms!

V Budapešti jsme byli ubytovaní v apartmánu V1 apartment, který bych doporučila každému, kdo touží po skvělém výhledu za přijatelnou cenu. Přímo z bytu se můžete kochat krásným výhledem na parlament a náměstí před ním. V samotném bytě pak najdete 2 ložnice, koupelnu, obývací pokoj, jídelu a kuchyň, takže je i vhodný, pokud cestujete ve větším počtu lidí!

SIGHTSEEING

 - Parliament Building: As mentioned before, the Parliament building is one of the most famous buildings in the whole city. The building is located at the Dunabe's riverside and the building is definitely worth seeing from the other side of the river as well, as it offers the best view on it!
- Buda Castle: Buda Castle is located in the part of the city called "Buda". The castle should be at least once visited when being in the city. The building was built in the 13th century and besides introducing you into the Hungarian history, you can also enjoy a very nice view over the whole Budapest! 
- Chain Bridge: One of the most famous bridges in the city is the Chain bridge, which is unique when it comes to its architecture. The Chain bridge is one of the most famous sights in Budapest, so you shouldn't skip this one when visiting the capital of Hungary.
- Danube Boat Tour: Another "must" to do when in Budapest is having a boat tour and enjoy the iconic landmarks from a little different point of view. In summer I highly recommend to rent a open boat, which usually comes with some drinks as well!
- Matthias Church & Fishermen's Bastion: If you are looking for a great view point, definitely check out the Fisherman's Bastion and Matthias Church. Both is located at the very top of the city part called "Buda" and it offers a great view over the whole city! I recommend visiting this place very early in the morning, as it gets super-crowded, especially during the summertime!

- Margaret Island: Margaret Island is a 2.5km long and 500 meters wide island where you can find a lot of trees, cafes, restaurants and paths made for walking. The island is a great option for a romantic walk, morning run or a simply a nice spot for some relax!

- Thermal bath Szechenyi: Hungary is famous mostly for its spas and wellness baths, so if you want to try a traditional bath, you definitely can't miss this one! This thermal bath is actually the biggest one in the whole Europe. The water is supplied from two springs which have a temperature of 74 and 77 degrees Celsius.   

 - Parlament: Jak jsem již zmiňovala, maďarský parlament patří k jedné z nejznámějších budov v celém městě. Parlament je postavený hned na břehu Dunaje, takže si ho nezapomeňte prohlédnout ani z druhého břehu řeky!
- Budínský Hrad: Budínský Hrad se nachází (logicky) v budínské části města. Postavený je na samotním vrchu města a kromě maďarské historie si z něho můžete vychutnat i krásný výhled na celou Budapešť!

- Széchenyiho řetězový Most: Jeden ze symbolů města a zároveň nejznámějším mostem v celé Budapešti je bez pochyb tento řetězový most. Určitě byste si neměli nechat ujít procházku po něm, pokud plánujete město navštívit. 

- Plavba po Dunaji: Ať už se chystáte Budapešť navštívit v létě či v zimě, plavba po Dunaji by Vám an Vašem "bucketlistu" rozhodně chybět neměla. 
- Matyášův Chrám & Rybářská Bašta: Dalšími památkami, které byste při své návštěvě neměli vynechat, jsou Matyášův Chrám a Rybářská Bašta, které se stejně jako Budínský hrad nachází na samotném vrcholku městské části Buda. Kromě úžasných architektpnických prvků se můžete těšit také na nádherný výhled na celé město. Obě památky doporučuji ale navštívit kolem 8. ráno, kdy ještě nejsou přeplněné (asijskými) turisty.
- Margaretin Ostrov: 2.5 kilometru dlouhý a 500 metrů široký Margaretin ostrov, který se nachází přímo na řece Dunaji, je plný zeleně, kaváren a míst na odpočinek. Návštěvu ostrova bych doporučila každému, kdo touží po romantické procházce, ráno si chce v klidu zaběhat a nebo každému, kdo si chce odpočinout od ruchu velkoměsta.
- Termální lázně Szechenyi: Maďarsko je známé především pro své termální lázně, takže si na svém výletu nemůžete nechat ujít největší termální lázně v Evropě. Blahodárná voda pochází z dvou podzemních pramenů, které dosahují teploty 74 a 77 stupňů celsia!

FOOD & DRINKS

- Mr. Funk: One place you can't miss when in the city is doughnut shop called "Mr. Funk" where you can buy delicious doughnuts, bagels or shakes. I can only recommend their monster shake with a unicorn doughnut on the top - it's really delicious and it looks super cute! The food can be either eaten at their place or taken away in a box!

- Nobu Budapest: If you're a sushi lover (just like I am), you can't miss a visit of Nobu, a famous chain of Japanese cuisine. This luxurious place is located inside of the Kempinski hotel and offers the very of the best!

- Fishermen's Bastion: All view-points-lovers I can recommend a restaurant inside the Fishermen's Bastion, which I already mentioned. This spot offers a great view over the whole city. It doesn't matter if you come just for a drink (or two), or a lunch. This place is simply a must!

- Cafe New York: Cafe New York is not only unique for its amazing interior, but also for its amazing food which they are offering. 

- High Note Sky Bar: Located at the very top of the Aria Hotel, High Note Sky Bar offers a great view on the St. Stephen's Basilica. I can recommend visiting the place especially in the hot months. There are many "cabbana-style" chairs which can be rented where you can enjoy a drink or two and enjoy the sun shining. They are about 80 euros but definitely worth it in summer!

- Mr. Funk: Obvykle nenavštěvuji "donutárny", avšak Mr. Funk mě donutil se do jejich obchodu podívat a musím říct - tohle místo jsem si zamilovala. Kromě úžasných (a roztomilých donutů) si můžete objednat také jeden z mnoha bagelů a nebo nějaký milkshake. Mým favorit byl jednoznačně "moster shake" s jednorožčím donutem na vrchu - ten doporučuji každému, kdo se do Budapešti vydá!
- Nobu Budapest: Pokud milujete sushi (stejně tak jako já), určitě byste si neměli nechat ujít Nobu Budapest - jednu z mnoha lokací známé japonské restaurace, kterou zbožnuje i klan Kardashianů. V Budapešti Nobu najdete uvniř hotelu Kempiňski a těšit se můžete na to nejlepší z japonské kuchyně! 
-  Rybářská bašta: Rybářskou baštu jsem již v článku zmiňovala v památkách. Přímo v ní se ale nachází i restaurace, která je známá především svým dechberoucím výhledem na celou Budapešť. Ať už zajdete jen na oběd nebo na drink, určitě si nezapomeňte užít tento dechberoucí výhled!
- Cafe New York: Cafe New York je známé jak pro svůj unikátní interiér, tak pro svoje skvělé pokrmy. 
- High Note Sky Bar: Pokud toužíte navštívit nějaký "rooftop", rozhodně zajděte do hotelu Aria, kde najdete i rooftop bar High Sky Note. Ten doporučuji navštívit především v letních měsících. Kromě klasických stolů v něm najdete i větší "cabany", které si za cca. 80 euro můžete pronajmout a užívat si sluníčka!

SHOPPING

- Andrássy Út: Any fashion addict loving luxury brand will love Andrássy Út, which is a street made for luxury shopping. There can be found stores like Louis Vuitton, 

- Váci Utca: For a high street shopping definitely make a stop at a street called "Váci Utca". In this surroundings you'll find many high-street brands like Zara, Zara Home, H&M or Pull&Bear. 

- Andrássy Út: Pokud milujete nakupovat v luxusních značkách, určitě byste neměli minout ulici "Adrássy Út", kde najdete značky jako Louis Vuitton, 

- Váci Utca: Většinu "high street obchodů", jako je například Zara, Zara Home nebo H&M, najdete na ulici "Váci Utca" a v jejím okolí.
